Easy Virtue: Haters Gonna Hate

Much drama is about in this 1928 silent film by Alfred Hitchcock, but the best of it comes in the second half. When Larita cautiously approaches a new life following a humiliating divorce, she is met with the kind of horseshit one would expect from such an event. However, she is later greeted with an amount of shade not many could withstand...

The new in-laws (half of them anyway) show open disdain for Larita - the best of which coming from a perky sister in-law who all but throws confetti after each expertly delivered shot. Here she is delighting in telling the new bride that the family's preferred woman is coming over for dinner...

I mean, look at the satisfaction on her face! She is as cute as she is vicious - the worst kind of bully! The actress did this almost too well! The husband's silence on the matter made it almost hard to watch at times.

This is a dated melodrama with timeless social behavior.
